Three Days on the Water: Our SUP Yoga Teacher Training in Kefalonia, Greece

Yoga, turquoise waters, new friendships, and unforgettable adventures. A look back at our September 2026 SUP Yoga Teacher Training in the beautiful village of Assos.

By The Soulful Kind Yoga School

Some experiences remind us exactly why we love what we do. Our SUP Yoga Teacher Training in Kefalonia, Greece, was one of them.

From September 19–21, 2026, we brought our yoga community together in the picturesque village of Assos for three days dedicated to learning, movement, adventure, and connection.

Surrounded by crystal-clear turquoise waters, dramatic green mountains, and the charm of a traditional Greek fishing village, we couldn't have imagined a more beautiful setting to deepen our relationship with yoga and the ocean.

And while our goal was to educate and inspire a new group of SUP Yoga teachers, the experience became so much more than a training.

It was a reminder that learning can be playful, challenges can bring us closer together, and sometimes the most meaningful lessons happen outside the classroom.

Why We Chose Assos, Kefalonia

Greece has always held a special place in our hearts, and the Ionian island of Kefalonia is particularly magical.

Nestled between lush hills and the turquoise waters of the Mediterranean, Assos is a tiny village where life seems to move at a different pace.

Colourful houses line the waterfront, fishing boats float gently in the harbour, and the surrounding coastline offers some of the most beautiful scenery in Greece.

For a SUP Yoga Teacher Training, the location was ideal.

Practicing yoga on water asks us to become more aware of our surroundings. We learn to notice the movement beneath us, adapt to changing conditions, and find balance without relying on solid ground.

What better place to explore this than surrounded by nature?

Taking Yoga Off the Mat and Onto the Water

One of the things we love most about SUP Yoga is how it transforms even the simplest yoga poses into an entirely new experience.

A Downward-Facing Dog suddenly requires more awareness. A Warrior Pose becomes an exercise in finding stability. And even sitting quietly in meditation feels different when the water moves gently beneath you.

SUP Yoga invites us to approach our practice with curiosity rather than expectations.

And yes, sometimes that means falling into the water!

But that's part of the beauty of it.

At The Soulful Kind, we believe yoga shouldn't always be so serious. There is space for concentration and discipline, but there should also be space for laughter, exploration, and joy.

Yoga is not about being perfect. It's about being present.

And the water has a wonderful way of reminding us of that.

Three Days of Learning, Adventure, and Growth

Our 25-hour SUP Yoga Teacher Training was designed to give participants the knowledge, practical skills, and confidence to guide their own classes safely on the water.

Over three immersive days, we explored the essential elements of becoming a SUP Yoga instructor.

We began with the foundations: learning how to control and anchor our boards, understand balance, and adapt traditional yoga poses to a moving surface.

From there, we moved into sequencing, teaching methodology, and how to communicate effectively with students in an outdoor environment.

Unlike teaching in a yoga studio, SUP Yoga introduces a completely different set of considerations.

Wind, water conditions, equipment, safety, and the individual abilities of each participant all become part of the teaching process.

We explored paddling techniques, navigation, rescue principles, and how to support students in finding confidence on the water.

And perhaps most importantly, participants had the opportunity to step into the role of teacher themselves.

Because at The Soulful Kind, we believe that the best way to learn how to teach is to actually teach.

Learning Beyond the Classroom

One of the highlights of our training programme was taking our learning beyond the yoga board and exploring the beautiful coastline of Kefalonia.

Our itinerary included a boat excursion, paddling along the coast, and opportunities to experience the island from the water.

These adventures were not simply breaks from studying.

They were an essential part of understanding the environment in which SUP Yoga takes place.

Learning how to navigate, read water conditions, and feel comfortable on a paddleboard helps build the confidence needed to guide others safely.

But beyond the practical skills, being outdoors brings something else into the experience.

A sense of freedom.

A reminder of how good it feels to move our bodies, breathe fresh air, and spend time in nature without the usual distractions of everyday life.

The Connections That Make It Special

Whenever we organize a teacher training or retreat, we are reminded that what makes an experience truly memorable is often the people we share it with.

Yoga brings together individuals who might otherwise never cross paths.

Different countries, different backgrounds, different life stories, but a shared curiosity and love for movement, nature, and personal growth.

Over the course of a training, strangers begin to feel like a little yoga family.

We support one another through challenges, celebrate small victories, share conversations, and create memories that extend far beyond the classes themselves.

For us, this is one of the most beautiful parts of The Soulful Kind community.

We don't just want participants to leave with a certificate.

We want them to leave feeling inspired, supported, confident, and connected.

More Than a SUP Yoga Certification

SUP Yoga is about so much more than performing yoga poses on a paddleboard.

It's about learning to adapt, developing confidence, understanding our relationship with nature, and discovering new ways to share yoga with others.

For some participants, completing a SUP Yoga Teacher Training is the beginning of a new professional journey.

It opens opportunities to teach in beautiful outdoor locations, offer unique classes, or expand an existing yoga business.

For others, the motivation is more personal.

They simply want the knowledge and freedom to take their own yoga practice onto the water, confidently and independently.

Both reasons are equally meaningful to us.

Our philosophy at The Soulful Kind has always been that yoga is a tool we can use to improve our everyday lives.

And whether you choose to teach SUP Yoga professionally or simply practice for yourself, the lessons of balance, presence, resilience, and adaptability extend far beyond the board.

Thank You, Kefalonia!

Looking back at our September training, we feel incredibly grateful.

Grateful for the people who joined us, for the opportunity to share our passion, and for the beautiful island that provided the setting for this experience.

Three days filled with learning, movement, new perspectives, and moments we will remember for a long time.

To everyone who joined us: thank you for trusting us to guide you on this journey and for bringing your energy, curiosity, and enthusiasm onto the water.

We hope you carry everything you learned into your own practice, your future classes, and wherever life takes you next.

Until we meet again on the water!
